President's Poll Numbers Continue To Plummet

A newly released poll conducted by Zogby International, between Aug. 11th, and Aug. 15th, 2006, indicates the president’s approval rating has dropped to a new low, with only 34% of those surveyed approving of the way Bush is currently handling his job. In addition, a whopping 59% believe the country is headed in the wrong direction.

The war in Iraq continues to be a sticking point for most Americans. Asked if the war in Iraq has been worth the loss of American lives, only 38% of those polled said “yes,” while 56% said “no,”.

Pollster John Zogby had this to say: “President Bush’s numbers mainly reflect the country’s thinking on the war in Iraq, and most people have made up their minds that the war overall has not been worth the loss of American lives. Terrorism is an important issue to Americans, but when it comes to judging Bush’s presidency, their decision is based largely on Iraq.”

Meanwhile, Democrats continue to build momentum leading into the November mid-term elections. When asked whether they planned to vote for the Democrat or the Republican in their congressional election, 39% favored Democrats, while 31% said they would be voting for a Republican. This, as an average of just over a hundred Iraqi civilians are being killed each and every day in ever increasing sectarian violence.
